Enjoy a genuine East End Hackney Pub Crawl in the comfort of your own living room. A stunning new illustrated limited edition print collection featuring the borough’s favourite watering holes.
Having endured the strangest of recent times, that most simple and treasured of British pleasures, sitting down in your local with a few mates or family members has seemed a nostalgic memory from another age. We’ve all longed so much to hear again the comforting clink of pints and warm chatter, so while we wait for ordinary times to return, please raise a glass to Pub Scrawls’ fantastic inaugural presentation, HACKNEY PUB CRAWL.
Released summer 2021 as limited edition, signed, numbered and stamped, colour or black and white prints available in three sizes, this stunning illustrated composition of up to 26 of the most celebrated boozers in the London borough of Hackney couldn’t come at a better time – just as we dream of getting back down to the Chesham Arms, the Pub on the Park, The Adam & Eve or so many other of our favourite, so dearly missed local watering holes.
From Lower Clapton to Homerton, Victoria Park to Hackney Central, Haggerston to Hoxton, De Beauvoir to Dalston and Stoke Newington, HACKNEY PUB CRAWL celebrates these 25 pillars of the Hackney Borough community for multiple generations past – and once we get through these trying times – generations to come.
HACKNEY PUB CRAWL is the brainchild of proud Hackney resident Bruce Fisher, of top music industry design agency Tour Design, plus illustrator Lilia Mannarini, whose brilliantly unique drawings bring each building to life.
Each featured pub has been bespoke hand-drawn including signage. The final drawings then photographed and digitised before adding layered textures and colours in photoshop. The completed illustrations have been compiled onto three canvasses. The final designs then printed using traditional offset lithographic process on to a 190gsm matt uncoated archival long acid free long life certified paper (ISO 9706).
The idea begun in 2019, when Bruce and Lilia wanted to devise a project embracing Hackney’s rapidly evolving multi-cultural diversity, whilst also honouring its proud history.
Bruce said: ‘Hackney pubs are the perfect symbol of everything that’s good and vibrant about our Borough, although sadly, we have lost many over the years and more have suffered badly during the pandemic.’
‘It’s fair to say that a fair bit of ‘live’ research was invested into making the final selection – although sadly not much over the last year and more – not forgetting the time in creating the actual individual drawings. We now hope that Hackney-ites everywhere will share our passion for capturing the essence of these uniquely wonderful pillars of our community.’
The idea for HACKNEY PUB CRAWL blossomed from 2017’s highly successful composition titled Chatsworth Road Illustrated, a project celebrating local, independent, diverse and creative shopping establishments on Chatsworth Road in Hackney. The designs were produced as part of a limited edition of 150 colour and black and white prints and have recently sold out.
Pub Scrawls have plans to spread to other London Boroughs then take the idea nationwide. Brits, after all, will always celebrate their local boozers, from Aberystwyth to Zenor.
